The Sindh Health Department has decided not to extend the contracts and services of doctors and nurses hired in 2019 for 89 days on a contract basis to deal with emergencies arising in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sources said that a summary had been sent, was floated for final approval on the contracts involving healthcare professionals hired to deal with the mass stress put on the healthcare system by the pandemic.
About 1400 nurses were recruited, 700 joined duties while 1200 doctors were hired for covid-19 emergencies. The uncertainty was prevalent in contract doctors and nurses over their futures.
The central leaders of the Grand Health Alliance (GHA) have shown concern over the proposed discontinuation of doctors and nurses’ contracts. They warned to hold a Sindh-wide protest if the health department does not extend the contract of doctors and nurses.
