Thalassemia Test mandatory for marriage

Karachi:Provincial Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said that there is a dire need to implement law on Thalassemia in letter and spirit that has been passed by Sindh Assembly and he requested NADRA not to issue nikhanama unless the Thalassemia test report is enclosed with it.

This he said while talking to Secretary Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority DrZahid Ansari here in his Office.

DrZahid Ansari told the provincial minister health that a seminar was held on Thalassemia to create awareness on the disease. In this seminar awareness sessions were conducted.

Health Minister said inter-marriages among families is a big cause of spreading Thalassemia in the children and this practice must be discouraged at all level. He said that Sindh Assembly had already passed a bill in this regard and made it a must that a Thalassemia test should be done before entering into marriage and in this way we can save our children from fatal disease of Thalassemia. He said due to lack of awareness the law was not followed

He directed Secretary SBTA to conduct walks, seminars and other tools of awareness to spread awareness on the disease so that we might save our future generations from Thalassemia.
