GUJRANWALA: After the death of a woman and her unborn child during delivery at a private hospital in Baghbanpura, enraged protesters burnt the car of the lady doctor who conducted the C-section surgery and blocked GT Road for traffic by placing the deceased woman’s body there .

According to police and hospital sources, Tahir brought his pregnant wife Shabana to private Al-Khair Hospital in Baghbanpura for delivery, where a lady doctor, Shumaila, conducted a C-section surgery to deliver the baby.

As the surgery allegedly went wrong, the lady doctor told Tahir that his wife needed to be shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for further treatment.

When Tahir called Rescue 1122 ambulance for shifting his wife to the DHQ Hospital, the ambulance staff after examining Shabana told him that both the mother and the unborn child had already died.

On knowing this, Tahir and his relatives got enraged and protested against the hospital management.

Meanwhile, Dr Shumaila, who was about to leave the hospital in her car was surrounded by the protesters who set the vehicle on fire after dowsing it in petrol.

The lady doctor remained unhurt as she left the car before it was torched.

The hospital administration called police that took four of the protesters in custody and were conducting raids for arresting others.

The protesters blocked GT Road at Gondlanwala Chowk for traffic by placing the body of the deceased woman and chanted slogans against the private hospital`s administration and the lady doctor. They demanded registration of a murder case against them.

The Civil Lines SP, along with a heavy contingent of police, also arrived there and assured the protesters that action would be taken against the hospital administration and the lady doctor if they were found guilty after investigation.

Following the assurance, the protesters dispersed.
