KARACHI -  Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiuqi said here that trees and parks not only play a vital role in creating a healthy environment, but also help in minimizing the hazardous impact of air pollution.

He was talking to media persons at a ceremony organized by the Aman Foundation to launch “Shajar-e-Aman” campaign at the city’s Hill Park. DG Parks and Horticulture Niaz Soomro inaugurated the drive which, according to the Aman Foundation, is aimed at making Karachi `green and clean’.

Lauding the Aman Foundation’s efforts for launching the tree plantation campaign, Mr Siddiqui assured that the staff of KMC park department would take care of the trees planted at the park.

Speaking on the occasion, Aman Foundation’s CEO Malik Ahmad Jalal said that the Foundation during the recent heatwave tragedy distributed 95,150 water bottles, 89,400 Iftar meals box, besides providing treatment to 1,983 heatstroke patients.

He was of the view that the impact of heatwave spells in future could be minimized to a great extent by planting more and more trees in the metropolis. “The aim behind our “Shajar-e-Aman” campaign is to protect the environment as well as to create awareness among people about the benefits of tree plantation,” he added.

Over 400 volunteers, Aman Foundation employees, AmanTech students, representatives of municipal organizations, and partners - Nestle and Subh-e-Nau - attended the ceremony and planted trees at the park.
