JPMC Observes Surgical Week for Colorectal Diseases

PESHAWAR: Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Karachi, arranged the 12th annual surgical week for colorectal diseases, which concluded at the Khyber Teaching Hospital.


During the week, the doctors attended live conference from Karachi of the guests from Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden, University of Turin & Sassari, Italy and Portsmouth Hospital NHS Trust, England, according to a statement.


The participants were trained live by master trainer about inflammatory bowel disease, rectal cancer, rectal prolapses and benign anal pathologies day.


It was the third time that Khyber Teaching Hospital hosted broadcast of live surgery from JPMC. The organisers said it was an excellent opportunity for the doctors who were taking interest in learning new state-of-the-art surgeries, skills and techniques but they did not have the resources or time to travel to attend such conferences in person.


The objective of observing the week was to demonstrate surgery for ulcerative colitis rectal cancer, rectal prolapses and complex anal conditions i.e fistula, sphincter damage etc and to emphasise recent developments in the field and current areas of controversies and to hold informative discussion on various techniques and complications.


It was stated that JPMC arranged the surgical week every year and this time KTH faculty, consultants, and students were also facilitated by this video conference.
