Shahbaz terms funds for education `useful investment’

Lahore – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the provincial government has provided billions of rupees for ensuring quality health and educational facilities to the people.

Moreover, special attention was being paid for the promotion of quality education and improvement of public health facilities, he added.

Claiming that the revolutionary steps taken by the government in education sector for the empowerment of youths were yielding positive results, he said that education was the key to success and funds provided for promotion of education were not expenditure, but a useful investment. He said a comprehensive programme had been started for the improvement of health facilities in the province.

Talking to elected representatives, the other day, the CM said that the development of education and health sectors was the priority of the government and all resources were being utilised for this purpose.

He said that reforms of revolutionary nature had been introduced for strengthening of education and health sectors, besides basic amenities were being ensured in schools under Schools Reforms Programme.

The CM said that measures were also being adopted for ensuring attendance of teachers and students. He said the youths were a precious asset and as such the goals of progress and development of country could be achieved by imparting them modern education. He said that Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF), Danish school system, provision of scholarships to talented students, educational programmes of Punjab Education Foundation and the study tours of position-holders to foreign educational institutions were revolutionary measures of the Punjab government.

He said that hospitals equipped with modern facilities were being set up in the province and health facilities were being improved in THQ and DHQ hospitals and rural and basic health centres. He said that work was being carried out speedily on the state-of-the-art projects - Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute and Research Centre - in the provincial metropolis.

Lauding the measures taken by the chief minister for provision of basic facilities to the masses, elected representatives said that Shahbaz Sharif had taken unprecedented steps for the uplift of health and education sectors.
