First-ever “Pak-China Med Cong” to commence on Jan 8

Karachi: A three-day first-ever “Pak-China Med Cong (Congress)”, will kick off in the city on Jan 8 under the joint auspices of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and Chinese Medical Association (CMA) . It will continue till Jan 10.

The congress is aimed at celebrating the historical event of Pak-China economic corridor as “An initiative for joint Pak-China Medical Corridor”.

Updating media persons about the upcoming congress, members of the organising committee -  Dr Kaleem Butt and Dr S. M. Qaisar Sajjad - said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah will be the chief guest and guest of honour, respectively, at the inaugural session of the congress. Besides, we are also in touch with the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad and its Consulate in Karachi for their representation as special guest, while President Mamnoon Hussain has been invited as chief guest for the `Gala Dinner’, slated for Jan 9, they added.

Divulging into details, they said that all scientific sessions of the congress will be held at the city’s Marriott Hotel, social awareness programmes at Arts Council and business sessions at the PMA House.

Up till now, four office-bearers of Chinese Medical Association and 44 speakers, belonging to various disciplines of medicine and different societies, have confirmed their participation in the congress. These speakers will deliver state-of-the-art lectures relating to their fields.

Moreover, 74 Pakistani renowned specialists and academicians have also confirmed their participation, while a large number of Chinese delegates are also expected to participate in the congress.

Discussions and community awareness programmes will also be held on different subjects and issues such as population control, maternal & child health, reproductive health, oral cancer, blindness, safe drinking water, addiction and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), environment and human rights, etc. Experts belonging to civil society will participate in these events.

Besides, a scientific exhibition and a poster competition among college students will be arranged and the first three winners of the poster contest will be awarded cash prizes. The topics of the contest are: `Hand washing protects from diseases’, `Let us eradicate polio from Pakistan’ and `Stop quackery now’.
