2 dead, 53 more children hospitalized in Tharparkar

KARACHI: Recently, 53 more children were admitted to different government hospitals of the District Tharparkar with different ailments in addition to the 145 children previously admitted as old cases.

All were provided state of the art healthcare free of cost. Two children succumbed to their ailments at the Civil Hospital Mithi despite all measures available for resuscitation. Among them was Naheed, age 10 months, daughter of Inayat, a resident of Islamkot. She was suffering from pneumonia. The other case was of a baby boy named Vikram, a resident of Taluka Mithi, who died due to birth asphyxia.

The continuous dry spell in Tharparkar has severely affected the region. Deserts all over the world suffer more during such harsh conditions. Human, as well as animal and botanical life, need relentless efforts on the part of the government and its partner sectors for survival.

Thousands of health professionals, paramedical staff and support workers with drugs, logistics, and other relief goods are scattered over the vast and challenging to reach dunes and terrains of Tharparkar since many months in efforts to help people cope up with nature induced calamity. The positive results have started to pour in. Along with other indicators, they all have witnessed a significant decline in the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) of Tharparkar as compared to previous graphs depicting a noticeable rise in living standards.
