Karachi: As many as 45 HIV-positive pregnant women have delivered 45 HIV virus free babies in Sindh province with efforts of Sindh AIDS Control Program (SACP) management.
Provincial Program Manager, Sindh AIDS Control Program (SACP), Dr Mohammad Younis Chachar said SACP had registered 48 HIV-positive pregnant women out of which 26 recorded in HIV/AIDS Treatment Center, Civil Hospital Karachi while 22 in Sheikh Zaid Hospital Larkana.
He informed that 26 HIV-positive mothers delivered HIV virus free babies in Civil Hospital Karachi while 19 out of total 22, delivered HIV free children in Sheikh Zaid Larkana Hospital . He said four remaining mothers are expected to deliver their babies in upcoming weeks.
He said SACP management has been working on reducing mother-to-child transmission of HIV in the province since last several years. He informed that district task force has also been formed in across the Sindh province including Karachi Division to detect hidden cases of HIV/AIDs and control the further spread of such cases.
