The first transgender school is to be open in Lahore

LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department announced the opening of a transgender school in the provincial capital's Barkat Market.

The department has chosen to convert Barkat Market's Government Girls High School into a transgender school. It will be the city's first school for marginalised children. In July last year, Multan built the country's first specialised public school for the transgender community.

The District Education Authority has begun the process of converting the girls' school into a facility for transgender students. The school staff will be appointed in accordance with the rationalisation policy, or new staff will be employed.
