Doctor's bodies hail 14% increase in Sindh health budget

KARACHI: Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and Young Doctor's Association (YDA) applaud Sindh's 14 per cent health budget hike for the fiscal year 2022-23.

The Sindh government has budgeted 206.98 billion rupees for the health sector, which is 14 per cent more than the 181.2 billion rupees given in FY 2021-22.

Dr Umar Sultan, chairman of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) of Sindh, stated that the increase in the budget is good but that there were severe accusations of theft in the previous budget. With the growth in the budget, it is crucial to create a policy for its utilisation.

He requested the appointment of honest officials and the cessation of illegal activities. Dr Mirza Ali Azhar, a senior leader of the Pakistan Medical Association in Sindh, praised the Sindh government for allocating Rs 600 million for the Robotic Surgical System and Rs 500 million for the Radiology Department of Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital (CHK) in Karachi. He requested that the administration expedite the installation of equipment and utilise grants transparently.

Dr Saqib Ansari, an eminent haematologist, stated that donating Rs 290 million for treating children with thalassemia is a commendable initiative but urged that the money be awarded to renowned institutes that currently provide free services to children. So that youngsters may have additional amenities.
