KARACHI- Speakers at an environmental festival have urged the government institutions, bureaucrats and members of civil societies to help improve environment by making Karachi a clean, green and noise-free metropolis.
They were speaking at a festival organized by National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH) at a Clifton’s shopping mall to mark the World Environment Day. The event attended by over 300 schoolchildren and their parents was held in collaboration with United Nations’ Environment Programme.
Participants of event included Metropolitan Commissioner of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Samiuddin Siddiqui, Administrator District Municipal Corporation (South) Mir Farooq Lango, Dr Kaiser Waheed.
Speaking on the occasion, NFEH president Muhammad Naeem Qureshi said that children and youth should be associated to make environment, education and health-related campaigns successful.
Highlighting the importance of World Environment Day, he said that his forum had organized various environment-related programmes throughout the week so as to create awareness about environment among students and youths. In this regard, he mentioned the cooperation his organisation got from Commissioner Karachi and Sindh government’s Forest Department in launching a tree-plantation campaign in the city.
Giving details of the programmes held during the week, he said these included drawing, poster-making, general knowledge quiz, songs, and essay-writing competitions for children.
