Thousands Dying for want of Organs - Donate organs to help save lives: Prof Adib

KARACHI- Renowned urologist and director of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), Prof Adib Rizvi, has deplored that although the country’s Parliament has adopted a law for “deceased organ donation”, it is yet to take off.

“Even our Ulema have supported this programme,” he said, citing the favourable recommendations of a seminar held at Karachi University’s Shaikh Zayed Islamic Centre. In this regard, Prof Adib Rizvi eulogized the pivotal role of prominent religious scholar Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman.

Moreover, electronic and print media have been continuously trying to educate the masses about this noble cause so that lives of thousands of sick people, who are dying because of shortage of organs, could be saved, he added.

He was speaking during Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah’s visit to SIUT’s Liver Transplant Unit.

Expressing his gratitude to the chief minister for his government’s continued support to the transplant programme, Prof Adib Rizvi said SIUT needed support of government, and electronic media to educate our masses, so that they should come forward to donate their organs.

He said it’s very important to highlight the role of government-controlled electronic media in educating the public on daily basis.
