Political appointments render SACP ineffective

KARACHI- Despite the fact that the AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome), an illness that attacks the body’s ability to resist infection and usually causes death, the Sindh AIDS Control Programme (SACP) has been reportedly rendered ineffective in the wake of frequent political appointments, transfers and irregularities, it was reliably learnt.

Sources in the SACP, who wished not to be quoted, said political appointments, frequent transfers and rampant irregularities, have made the organization non-functional across the province. The non-governmental organizations (NGOs) associated with SACP are also considering to suspend their services to the programme over the inordinate delay in releasing their funds.

It may be pointed out that though the term of Sindh AIDS Control Programme project had expired on June 30, 2014, Sindh government has extended its term for another year.

“In fact, frequent transfers of the programme managers, delay in releasing funds to NGOs, associated with the organization, and irregularities have almost brought the SACP’s activities to a halt throughout the province,” the sources claimed.

Programme Manager, Sindh AIDS Control Programme, Dr Muhammad Younis Chachar, was not available for comment.
