Dearth of Consultants - Sindh police hospital sans blood bank

KARACHI - Medical Superintendent of Sindh Police Hospital, Karachi, Dr Sikandar Shah, said here that the hospital badly needed consultant doctors and a blood bank so that it could provide better health care facilities to police officials and their families.

“In view of increasing number of patients in the hospital’s OPD, there is an urgent need to have general surgeon, gynecologist,   orthopedic, anesthesiologist, pediatrician and technicians,” he added.
He was of the view that police department could save millions of rupees which it had been incurring every year on the treatment of policemen at private hospitals if Sindh police hospital was provided specialist doctors and a blood bank.

The MS said that a summary for the appointment of consultant doctors, setting up of a blood bank and upgradation of the existing laboratory has already been moved to Inspector General of Sindh Police and provincial secretary health.

Moreover, provincial secretary health has also been requested to depute consultant doctors on rotation basis at the police hospital until the hospital has its own consultant doctors, Dr Shah added.
He said eight new air-conditioners have been installed in the hospital’s X-ray, gynecology and paediatrics departments for providing better facilities to policemen and their family members.

At the outset, he said 180 heatstroke patients were provided treatment at the hospital.
