KARACHI: A comprehensive obstetrical ultrasound course was recently hosted by the Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) section at Ward 9B of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in partnership with the Continuing Medical Education (CME) department at Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU).

Led by Dr. Erum Majid, an expert in MFM and Associate Professor at JPMC, the course aimed to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals in obstetric and gynecological ultrasound techniques.

The curriculum covered both fundamental and advanced topics, including ultrasound physics, Doppler technology, and cross-sectional anatomy.

JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof Amjad Siraj Memon said, "Our collaboration with Ward 9B at JPMC reflects our dedication to improving the skills and knowledge of healthcare professionals, ultimately enhancing patient care."

Dr. Nighat Ali Shah, Head of Ward 9B, has been instrumental in establishing the ward as a centre of excellence in maternal-fetal medicine. "This initiative demonstrates our commitment to advancing maternal-fetal healthcare," said Dr. Musarrat Hassan, who also facilitated hands-on training during the course.

Dr. Erum Majid acknowledged the Sindh government's support and stressed the need for advanced equipment, such as Voluson E6 or S8 ultrasound machines, to further improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Rahat Naz, Director of CME at JSMU, reiterated the department's dedication to delivering high-quality, evidence-based medical education.

The MFM section at JPMC continues to play a leading role in enhancing maternal-fetal care and providing state-of-the-art training to healthcare professionals across the region.
