FJMU marks World Anatomy Day with exhibition of students’ works 

LAHORE: The Anatomy Department at Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) marked "World Anatomy Day" with an exhibition that combined scientific precision with artistic creativity, showcasing the talents of first and second-year students.

The students presented an array of anatomical works, blending scientific accuracy with visual appeal. The exhibits, which included Gross Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Embryology, and Histology models and posters, demonstrated remarkable attention to detail, reflecting the students' growing expertise in the field.

The display highlighted the intricate connections between muscles, bones, and tissues, underscoring the human body's sophisticated biological design.

A unique aspect of the event was the artistic expression of anatomical knowledge through diverse mediums such as crochet, embroidery, clay keychains, badges, edible anatomy, and body painting.

This visually captivating showcase transformed the complexity of anatomy into an interpretive art form, illustrating the harmony between science and creativity.

The ceremony was attended by prominent figures in the medical field, including FJMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, a recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Pride of Performance, whose contributions to education and medicine are widely recognised.

The chief guest was Prof Taquayya Sultana Abidi, former Anatomy professor at King Edward Medical University (KEMU) and founding president of the Anatomical Society of Pakistan, while Prof. Dr. Attiya Mubarak, former chairman of the Healthcare Commission, retired Anatomy professor at KEMU, and founding principal of Gujranwala Medical College, was the guest of honour.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Suhail, President of the Anatomical Society of Pakistan and Principal of Allied Health Sciences at Amna Inayat Medical College, was special guest of the event.

The event was also participated by other notable medical professionals, including Prof. Dr. Noreen Akmal, former Principal of FJMC and a renowned gynaecologist; Prof. Dr. Farhana Sajjad, Head of Anatomy at KEMU; Prof. Qurratulain, Head of Anatomy at Rahbar Medical College; and Dr. Sara Khan, Associate Professor at KEMU.

The distinguished guests were warmly welcomed by Prof Dr. Aliya Zahid, Chairperson of the Anatomy Department, along with Prof. Saima Shahbaz, Organizing Secretary Dr. Sobia Ibrahim, and other faculty members.

Students delivered presentations on diverse topics such as innovations in anatomy, artificial intelligence, and modern teaching methods, often infused with humour.

Second-year students performed a play on appendicitis, drawing attention to the often-overlooked appendix, while first-year MBBS students delivered a light-hearted portrayal of campus life and study challenges.

The event featured evaluations of posters, models, and anatomical crafts, overseen by Vice-Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal and other distinguished guests, with top contributors receiving certificates of recognition.

The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, while Prof Dr. Aliya Zahid, delivered the vote of thanks, reiterating her commitment to advancing educational experiences and promoting research at FJMU.
