LAHORE: Punjab witnessed the first dengue-related death this year when a 14-year-old girl died from complications related to Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) at the Mayo Hospital, Lahore.
As per hospital sources, the girl was shifted to the facility in Lahore from Sahiwal District Headquarters Hospital two days ago with high-grade fever and, despite intensive medical treatment, succumbed to complications associated with the viral infection.
As dengue cases continue to rise across the province, health officials are urging the public to take preventive measures, especially as temperatures begin to drop.
As per the latest official figures, 130 persons have tested positive for dengue in Punjab in a day.
Reports indicate that patients presenting with fever, throat infections, and respiratory issues are increasingly seeking treatment at both private and public healthcare facilities in Punjab.
Captain Niaz (Retd), a senior general physician, says that between 78-85pc of the patients he treats daily exhibit symptoms consistent with dengue fever, a potentially fatal mosquito-borne viral disease, which continues to pose a significant health threat.
