KARACHI-Senior faculty members of Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) have staged a protest and sit-in against concerned authorities of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation for not releasing funds for their salaries.
The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with different slogans like “justice with professors & assistant professors” and “release funds for salaries” among others. Around 100 KMDC faculty members have not been paid salaries for the past four months.
The protesters said that they were performing duties at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and other health facilities and were continuing educational activities on regular basis, but KMC had failed to release funds for their salaries since past four months due to financial crisis. This compelled the teachers to come out on streets to record their protest. One protestor informed, “Principal KMDC has approached Mayor Karachi and Senior Director Medical Services KMC for early release of funds but so far no positive response has been receive from any side.”
The protesters demanded of the KMC to release funds for their four month salaries on immediate basis otherwise they will suspend educational activities in first phase and will go on strike at KMC hospitals in second phase.
