KARACHI: A three-member committee formed by the Sindh Government Hospital (SGH), New Karachi, has written a letter to 35 alleged ghost employees following revelations they were not actively working at the facility.
As per official documents, the hospital medical superintendent (MS) recently formed a committee to conduct a physical verification of the alleged ghost employees.
The letter, numbered NO.SGHNK/1732, designates Dr. Babar Hameed as chairman, with Dr. Naheed Akhtar and Syed Kamran Haider as members of the committee which has issued a follow-up letter after completing the verification process, although the report has not yet been released.
Sources says that these 35 hospital employees have been absent for over a year, with complicity suspected among the accounts department and some administrative officers.
It was revealed that ghost employees have managed to evade biometric attendance checks, with two doctors, four nurses, two midwives, operating theatre staff, and other personnel involved. Moreover, the former MS was also identified as a ghost employee, leading to the suspension of salaries for four to five employees, the sources say.
The new MS, Dr. Hussain Jhatial, expressed ignorance of the situation but stated that if any complaints are substantiated, salaries of such absentee employees will be stopped.
He mentioned that the administration has already begun the physical verification of all employees, which is expected to take a week to complete.
