PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has stressed substantial reforms in the province's health and education sectors, calling for effective and goal-oriented changes in universities, medical colleges, and hospitals.
He was addressing a delegation of education experts at the Governor House, led by Dr. Aasia Khan and including Dr. Qibla Ayaz, Dr. Jamil Chitrali, Dr. Abdul Rehman Khattak, and Dr. Sajjad Khan.
Presenting recommendations to improve the administration and financial management of the education sector, the delegates said that hospitals and university systems in Sindh were perceived to be more efficient than those in KP.
Dr. Ayaz proposed a review of the Education Policy 2003 and suggested establishing a university for tribal youth, with Peshawar or Islamabad as potential locations.
The delegation also briefed the governor on the operational frameworks of universities and hospitals, including their financial, educational, and administrative powers distributed among the federation, province, and Higher Education Commission.
They proposed setting up a separate higher education commission at the provincial level to oversee university matters.
Governor Kundi was informed about issues such as faculty appointments and promotions at medical colleges, discrepancies in the admission system, and legal gaps. He stressed the importance of maintaining high educational standards to enhance the capabilities of the youth.
Governor Kundi also mentioned initiating communication with vice-chancellors of public sector universities to ensure transparency in the use of university properties and income generation, aiming to ensure that universities requesting grants are utilizing their resources properly.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, Kundi said providing healthcare and education services to people is a governmental responsibility, necessitating collaborative efforts to modernize and improve these sectors.
