Pakistan records an alarming surge in COVID cases

ISLAMABAD: The country recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases in a single day on 14th January 2021 as 3,097 new cases and 46 deaths were reported.

The positivity ratio, which remained at around 5 percent for the last few weeks, also saw a jump and went up to 7.45 percent.

Earlier, 3,179 cases were reported on Dec 18 last year.

According to data from the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 3,097 new cases and 46 deaths were reported on 14th January 2021.

A total of 328 ventilators were under the occupation of patients across the country.

The ratio of use of ventilators was as follows: Multan, 56pc; Bahawalpur, 55pc; Lahore, 36pc; and Peshawar, 32pc.

The position of occupancy of oxygen beds across the country was as follows: Peshawar, 50pc; Karachi, 37pc; Multan, 33pc; and Rawalpindi, 28pc.

The number of active cases in the country was 33,869 while 467,234 people recovered from the disease.
