Omicron spreading at rate faster rate than other variants: WHO Chief

GENEVA: The Tedros Adhanom, Director-General, World Health Organization (WHO), recently informed that Omicron was spreading at an unprecedented rate and encouraged the audience to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

He stated, “Omicron is spreading at a rate we have not seen with any previous variant,” during a COVID-19 update in Geneva.

He further stated that The WHO is also concerned that countries classify Omicron as a minor variant. Despite the fact that Omicron is more contagious, it is unclear whether the strain causes more moderate or severe sickness than previous viral versions.

He claimed that immunisations alone would not be enough to safeguard societies against Omicron, stressing the necessity of masks and social distance.

“It’s not vaccines instead of masks. It’s not vaccines instead of distancing. It’s not vaccines instead of ventilation or hand hygiene. Do it all. Do it consistently. Do it well,” Director-General, WHO, said.
