INDIA: Citing reservations over Omicron, V K Paul, Chief, COVID Task Force, India, cautioned recently that current vaccinations might become ineffective in developing conditions, stressing the importance of being ready to adapt vaccines as needed.

He also anticipated that COVID-19 in India was moving closer to endemic, which he defined as a low to moderate transmission level.

As per the news source, he asserted that they had encountered the Delta variant and now the Omicron variant. There is a possibility that their vaccines may become ineffective in emerging situations due to their recent Omicron variant. He further stated they had seen how such uncertainties had arisen. However, while some may be legitimate, they do not have a complete picture.

He also stressed the importance of having vaccine platforms that really could adapt quickly to the changing nature of variants, speaking at an event organized by industry body CII.
