KARACHI: Following successful negotiations between junior doctors and public officials, out-patient departments (OPDs) in public sector hospitals across the province were decided to open recently.

As junior doctors boycotted patient treatment, the OPDs stayed closed for more than a week.

"We worked in the OPDs, but we also observed a black day in disapproval of the police action." "The government agreed practically all of our demands in our late-night conversations," said Dr Faizan Memon, Young Doctors Association, Sindh, adding that the government had published a notification on the issues that had prompted the demonstration.

He pointed out that the impasse was about the regularisation of COVID-19 doctors. "Because this issue has legal ramifications, government officials have informed us that this matter would be resolved in a technical manner." He further asserted that they had been promised that these doctors would be hired.
