Over 10m patients treated in 40 years at SIUT

Karachi: Over 10 million patients, hailing from various parts of the country, had received entirely free treatment at the Sindh Institute of Urology and transplantation (SIUT) during last four decades.

Statistics issued by the SIUT’s media department showed that the health facility provides free-of-cost treatment to over one million patients annually, and as such over 10m patients had been treated by the institution in the last 40 years.

Giving break-up of the facilities provided by the SIUT, the statistics showed that around 800 dialysis are performed daily in eight centers of the institute which mean about 25,4,641 patients are provided dialysis each year across Pakistan.

TRANSPLANTS: The SUIT teams had performed over 4,600 transplants to-date with a success rate of 95 per cent, while 294 transplantations of kidney are carried out annually.

Data further indicated that about 343,803 patients visit SIUT’s Out-patients department annually, while the number of patients admitted to the health facility, each year, stood at 41,162.

The SIUT’s emergency services remain open round-the-clock and where state-of-the-art services are provided to 350 patients every day, besides 111,544 patients with emergency needs are brought to the health facility annually.

PEADS: Children account for 15pc of the SIUT’s total patients and the services provided to them include nephrology, urology, transplantation, and GI hepatobiliary. Over 600 pediatric transplants had been performed, so far, while 59,703 children availed different services each year. The institute’s 26 operation theaters offer a wide-range of surgical procedures, including laparoscopic surgery and around 83,481 surgeries are performed annually at its different centres.

Moreover, social services, nutrition, lithotripsy, radiology, laboratory services, infectious diseases, anesthesia & intensive care unit, oncology, nuclear medicines and other services are provided to thousands of people each year free-of-cost and that too with dignity.

The SIUT management had established 10 centres across the country to cater to the needs of patients at local level.
