KMC is going to be the first municipal council in the country

KARACHI: Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Administrator Karachi, Sindh Government Spokesperson and CM Advisor on Law, said that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) would be the first municipal council in the country to establish and manage a public university. 

"The Sindh Cabinet has approved the draft of the Metropolitan University bill, and the Law Department will now review it before being presented for passage in the upcoming Sindh Assembly session," the Administrator said.

Barrister Murtaza Wahab stated that establishing a Metropolitan University in Karachi will soon become a reality. He noted that the creation of a government university in Karachi had been approved after a decade.

Barrister Murtaza Wahab noted that Metropolitan University would be constructed in Central District under the administrative jurisdiction of KMC.

According to the proposed law, the elected mayor of Karachi will serve as the university's Pro Vice Chancellor, and Karachi Medical and Dental College will be administered by Metropolitan University. Abbasi Shaheed Hospital will be Metropolitan University's teaching hospital. 

The Administrator commented that the Metropolitan University's main campus would be in Central District. He stated that KMC would update the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital's amenities to compare to the Metropolitan University's teaching hospital. In addition, the university will assist local students' medical education and research.
