Govt to help NGOs working to improve environment: Governor Sindh

KARACHI: Kamran Khan Tessori, Governor of Sindh, stated that the government would assist non-governmental organisations striving to improve environmental conditions in the country by increasing tree cover.

As he met with a delegation of the National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH), the Governor of Sindh expressed his government's commitment. The group was led by Naeem Qureshi, president of the NFEH.

Secretary General NFEH Ruqiya Naeem, Vice President Engr. The delegation comprises Nadeem Ashraf, Information Secretary Mustafa Tahir, and Advisors Imran Taj and Mushafiq Aziz.

The forum addressed topics linked to the ongoing efforts to reduce environmental pollution and boost tree cover in Sindh.

After health and education, Kamran Khan Tessori, the Governor of Sindh, told the delegation that environmental protection was his third highest priority. He admitted that increasing tree planting would go a long way toward maintaining a clean and pollution-free environment.

Kamran Khan Tessori pledged Governor House's support for environmental awareness, citywide tree planting, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs. He emphasised Fire Safety awareness and prevention in all business and residential establishments.

The President of NFEH briefed the Governor of Sindh on his organisation's initiatives to encourage tree planting and increase public awareness of environmental issues.

According to him, the NFEH has been partnering with the Ministry of Climate Change, the Office of Karachi's Commissioner, the Sindh government's Forest Department, and numerous other public and private sector organisations to improve tree cover in Karachi and other major cities.

Since 1999, more than 300 events and plantation campaigns have been held by NFEH to improve the environment, CSR, fire safety, and the energy sector.

Qureshi stated that the NFEH requires continuous government support to continue its efforts to improve the country's environmental circumstances.
