KARACHI: Ghulam Nabi Memon, Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG), Karachi, urged authorities to restore model police stations as a matter of urgency to combat the city's deteriorating law and order situation.

Initially, six police stations in the port city are expected to be reopened as model stations, according to reports. There will be a merger of PS Clifton and PS Boat Basin to form the Model Police Station Clifton; a merger of PS Ferozabad and PS Bahadurabad to form the Model Police Station Ferozabad, and a merger of PS Liaqutabad and PS Supermarket to form the Model Police Station Liaqutabad.

The beat system was one of the aspects of model police stations. At least one motorbike and one car for each beat will be provided, as well as enough officers to staff them properly. To top it all off, these police stations will be staffed for eight hours a day and have enough money to run themselves.

For the first time in Pakistan, the police will employ e-tagging technology, according to a draught law prepared by AIG, Karachi. Anyone found guilty of repeating an offence will be observed for two years.
