Cardiac care capacity of Punjab’s major hospitals to be increased: minister

LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique says that the provincial government is going to enhance the capacity of cardiology departments at all major public sector healthcare facilities in the province.
He said this during a visit to the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation (PCHF) and the under-construction hospital at the University of Lahore (UoL) to review the medical facilities.
Chairman Farhan Ahmed briefed the minister on the operational details of the PCHF, while University of Lahore Chairman Owais Rauf, Medical Superintendent Dr. Zahid Parvez, Dr. Ali Nasir, Dr. Arsal, Professor Uzmi, and other officials were present.
The minister said the capacity of cardiology departments in Jinnah Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Ganga Ram Hospital, and hospitals in Wazirabad and Faisalabad was being increased.
He expressed concern over the rising number of children born with heart disease in Pakistan and emphasized that government cardiology hospitals are striving to increase the number of surgeries.
The minister announced that former premier Nawaz Sharif is planning to build a state-of-the-art cardiology hospital in Sargodha, with support from the PCHF, lauding the foundation’s services for humanity.
UoL Chairman Owais Rauf thanked the minister for his visit and urged him to lead their projects.
