KARACHI: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh recently directed the regional police authorities to establish heatstroke units at a district level in the Sindh province.
Heatstroke treatment centres should be established throughout the province, he said. These centres must be equipped with the necessary gadgets and medicines as well as cold drinking water and juices. There is a dire need to publicize the precautionary measures tremendously to enable the people to adopt the steps required in case of an emergency.
He stated that a campaign should be launched to create awareness among people about heatstroke.
Responding to the latest weather forecast with chances of a steady surge in daytime temperatures, which went past 40 degree Celsius with almost no breeze during past three days, the IGP sought immediate measures for timely intervention to prevent any possible heatstroke cases.
On the directive of SSP Malir, Irfan Bahadur, the police established seven heatstroke relief centres in Malir Cantt, Sachal, Gadap town, Malir City Bin Qasim town, and Sohrab Goth in view of the sizzling weather in Karachi.
All necessary medical facilities and medicines had been provided at these centres, besides the police also distributed cold drinking water, juices among the people. The area people appreciated this social work of the police.
