AKHU launches ‘Second Opinion’ online consultative service

ISLAMABAD: Offering a unique service to patients to seek highly qualified specialists’ opinions on their disease diagnosis or treatment plan, the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) inaugurated its ‘Second Opinion’ platform, extending access to medical consultations countrywide and globally, without the necessity of in-person visits.

A second opinion involves seeking medical advice from a different physician than the one who initially diagnosed or proposed treatment for a patient. Patients may opt for a second opinion to validate their diagnosis, ensure the appropriateness of their treatment plan, explore alternative treatment modalities, or simply for peace of mind, particularly when dealing with complex medical conditions.

Hosted on the AKUH Pakistan website, the second opinion service offers a secure and intuitive interface, enabling individuals to seek medical guidance from AKUH specialists, regardless of their geographical location.

As a Joint Commission International (JCI)-accredited quaternary care hospital, AKUH offers a comprehensive range of medical services delivered by some of the country’s most proficient and qualified physicians. Patients, whether adults or children, can avail themselves of second opinions on various diseases and treatment plans.

AKUH's Second Opinion service features a range of consultations, including general medical inquiries, assessments for surgical recommendations, and reviews of laboratory or radiology reports, among others.

Under the initiative, patients can initiate a second opinion request through the AKUH website's secure and user-friendly online platform. The process entails creating an account, logging in, providing pertinent medical information, and uploading relevant reports. Upon receipt, an AKUH physician thoroughly reviews the case and accompanying reports. Within five working days, patients receive a comprehensive written report, furnishing them with actionable insights and facilitating informed decision-making.
