KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the week-long anti-polio campaign in the province by administering polio drops to children at NJV School, Karachi. Starting today, the anti-polio campaign would run through December 22, 2024.
The last anti-polio vaccination drive of the year is targeting the vaccination of 10.6 million children throughout the province. The campaign involves a massive deployment of resources, including 80,000 front line workers conducting door-to-door vaccinations, supported by 15,000 security personnel to ensure their safety, as stated by the Sindh Health Department.
This year, Pakistan has reported 63 polio cases, with 17 in Sindh alone. Most environmental samples continue to test positive for the virus, signaling ongoing circulation and underscoring the urgency of this effort. Officials emphasize that vaccinating every child is critical to halting the virus and preventing lifelong disabilities.
CM Sindh urged parents to protect their children from permanent disability by ensuring they receive anti-polio drops.
Parents and caregivers are strongly urged to cooperate with the vaccination teams and ensure children receive the polio vaccine, as repeated doses are vital for building strong immunity. The Sindh Health Department also appeals to media, community leaders, and religious scholars to amplify awareness of the campaign's importance and help secure a polio-free future for the province and beyond.
