ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Human Rights Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada inaugurated an Orthopedic Workshop at National Special Education Centre for Physically Handicapped Children under the Directorate General of Special Education (DGSE).
Representatives of Ministry of Human Rights, government officials, social workers, members from NGOs and civil society attended the ceremony.
While addressing the audience Chief Guest Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada said that Persons with Disabilities are facing the challenges of accessibility, empowerment, rehabilitation and inclusion. It is the indeed the duty of state to bring them into the mainstream of society by making them enabling members. He appreciated the efforts of the Directorate General of Special Education on such initiatives.
He said that the provision of artificial limbs, prosthetics, and orthotic devices to children and adults with physical impairment & deformity will change their life. The worthy Minister emphasised the need of expansion of such services and provision of state-of-the-art facilities to persons with disabilities. He further talked about the need of new avenues and projects for the facilitation of persons with disabilities.
Sheikh Azhar Sajjad Director General of Special Education in his welcome address said that the DGSE and its allied institutions are engaged in the rehabilitation, education, and training of PWDs/CWDs. They are also enhancing their present capacity to uplift the living standards and functional mobility of individuals with disabilities.
He said that Directorate General of Special Education is contributing in the training and capacity building of the professionals, teachers and supporting staff in the field of special education. He further mentioned that provision of artificial limbs will surely swap the life of persons with physical disabilities.
