ISLAMABAD: All educational institutions across Rawalpindi Division will remain closed until November 17, 2024, as air pollution and smog levels continue to escalate.
In view of rising smog levels in the region, the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has directed the closure of schools, colleges, and private tuition centres up to the 12th grade.
To protect students’ health, classes will transition to online learning amid the hazardous air conditions.
Health officials have reported a notable increase in respiratory illnesses, eye irritation, and other health complications associated with the poor air quality.
UNICEF has also expressed alarm, noting that over 11 million children under the age of five are being severely affected by the smog enveloping a large portion of Punjab.
Earlier, the government had ordered similar school closures in major divisions such as Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad, with institutions shut from November 13 to 17.
