Huge money being spent on 35 health schemes in Karachi: Dahar

Karachi: As many as 35 health schemes are currently in progress in Karachi at an estimated cost of Rs181,64 million, Sindh Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said here.
Presiding over a meeting at his office, the minister said that on the one hand, Sindh government was spending huge amount on the health-related development schemes in the metropolis and, on the other, federal govrnment was not rendering any service for Karachiites.

Mentioning about the development schemes currently under way in the city, the minister said these include a 400-bed hospital in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Cardiac Emergency Centre at Baldia, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto 200-bed hospital at Mominabad, 50-bed hospital at Ancholi in Gulberg, 50-bed hospital/maternity home at Gulistan-e-Johar, 100-bed hospital at Keamari, 100-bed hospital at PIB Colony, 100-bed hospital at Orangi Town and a  central blood bank.

He said that several maternity homes, including those located at Eidgah, PIB Colony, Soldier Bazaar, Patel Para, Jehangir Road were being upgraded, besides extension of services of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation, strengthening of Chemico Bacteriological Laboratory and improvement of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and number of nursing schools were under way. 
Moreover, work on a children hospital was in progress at an estimated cost of Rs18m, he added.

Meanwhile, the minister, who paid a surprise visit to Sindh government Ibrahim Haidri  Hospital, expressed his dissatisfaction over hygienic conditions prevailing there and directed the hospital’s administration to improve the situation.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Special Secretary (Health) Dr Riaz Memon, Director General (Health) Dr Hasan Murad Shah and other senior officers.
