KARACHI: The National Institute of Child Health (NICH) in Karachi is facing a surge in admissions, resulting in a shortage of beds for sick children over the past two days.
NICH Director Dr. Nasir says that a substantial number of children have been admitted to the hospital recently, exacerbating the strain on available resources. The situation has resulted in overcrowding, with four to five children being accommodated on a single bed in emergency wards, he adds.
Dr. Nasir attributed the bed shortage to the influx of children referred to the NICH from other hospitals.
He assured that a comprehensive report on the hospital's predicament and the health status of the admitted children would be soon submitted to the health secretary and the minister for necessary action.
