PCMD concludes medical, dental internship programme

KARACHI: The Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD) at the University of Karachi has successfully concluded its medical and dental internship programme, participated by 20 final-year students and recent graduates pursuing MBBS and BDS, who underwent comprehensive training in various biomedical science domains.

During the certificate distribution ceremony at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, Prof Dr Farzana Shaheen, Director of ICCBS, presented internship certificates to the participants from prominent medical universities across Pakistan.

The recipients hailed from institutions such as Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi Medical and Dental College, Al Tibri Medical College, Isra University, Karachi, Loralai Medical College, Balochistan, Liaquat University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, and Bahria University of Health Sciences, Karachi.

Prof Shaheen commended Prof Dr Asmat Salim and her team for organizing a distinctive internship programme.

The ceremony, also attended by Prof Dr. Zaheer-Ul-Haq and other faculty members, highlighted the significance of the research training programme for medical and dental students.

The director said that this brief exposure to basic and clinical research in a world-class institution aimed to ignite research interest among medical students.

This year's internship programme, training 20 medical students and graduates in various disciplines of Molecular Medicine, reflects the ICCBS's commitment to science, research, and academia.

Prof Asmat Salim, in her address, said the Dr Panjwani Center conducts this internship programme annually in December for recent medical and dental graduates and students to provide participants with an opportunity to engage in research activities at the molecular and cellular levels.

The participants received training at different research centers within ICCBS, spanning diverse research areas such as Bioinformatics and Computational Chemistry, Cancer Research, Genomics, Medicinal Chemistry, Metabolic Disorders, Virology, Proteomics, Microbiology and Immunology, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, Stem Cell Research, Enzyme Inhibition Studies, and Bioequivalence Studies.
