KARACHI: Ramiz Raja, Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), had asked the medical department to set up defibrillators at the Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi stadia as well as at the National High-Performance Centre.

Defibrillators are devices that restore a normal heartbeat by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart.

The step was taken following Abid Ali, a cricketer, who complained of chest pain while batting for Central Punjab against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the last round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

The team doctor had rushed him to a local hospital where he underwent angioplasty, and two stents were placed in his blocked coronary artery.
