First Congo Fever case reported at JPMC

Karachi: First Congo fever, known as Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) has reported at the  Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

A 35-year old female resident of Orangi Town, Tazeem Faizan, was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre from a private hospital in critical condition a few days ago. She is probably the first Congo fever patient reported at JPMC with presenting Congo fever symptoms.

According to the Executive Director, JPMC, Dr Seemin Jamali, the woman has been diagnosed with Congo fever. At present, Tazeem’s platelet count is very low, and she is also vomiting blood.

The Congo is a tick-borne viral disease that is mainly contracted by people who deal with cattle and livestock. In 2018, the deadly Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) had claimed 16 lives in Karachi while 41 others were also infected from this tick-borne viral disease.
