KARACHI - Voicing concern over prevailing filthy environment and increasing number of flies in the aftermath of recent rains in the city, prominent ENT Surgeon Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad, has urged the authorities to launch fumigation campaign across the metropolis without any further delay.
Deploring over inordinate delay in launching fumigation campaign in the metropolis, Dr Qaisar, who is also Pakistan Medical Association’s finance secretary, apprehended that malaria and dengue viral fever cases might increase in the city if necessary preventive measures were not taken promptly by the authorities concerned.
Criticizing the civic agencies for not making proper arrangements for the disposal of solid waste and rectifying the faults responsible for choked sewerage lines and overflowing gutters, he said that several diseases such as gastroenteritis, hepatitis A, E, typhoid and measles usually surge during the rainy season.
Underscoring the need for creating awareness about the seasonal diseases among people, Dr Sajjad advised the people to use fresh fruits and vegetables, besides drinking boiled water.
