DPCP staff deprived of four months’ salary

KARACHI - The contractual employees of Dengue Prevention and Control Programme (DPCP), Sindh, are deprived of salary for the last four months.

According to sources, the DPCP’s employees could not be paid salary during last four months because of Sindh health department’s failure in getting the salary budget of its contractual employees approved from the competent authorities.

Sindh health department had hired the services of these employees on contract basis for its Dengue Prevention and Control Programme, but could not manage to arrange their salaries despite a lapse of about four months since their appointment, the sources said, adding these contractual employees were appointed as field staff, social mobilizers, spray men and clerks.

However, the director health Karachi, Dr Zafar Ezaz, who is also holding additional charge of the DPCP’s project manager, told this scribe that he had already sent a request to the provincial secretary health for early release of funds required for disbursing salaries to the contractual employees.

Meanwhile, provincial health department has not yet managed to appoint project manager for its DPCP although the post had been lying vacant for over a month.

Sources said that working of the DPCP had been badly affected in the absence of its provincial chief.
