KARACHI- In light of the recent case of kidnapping from Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), Sindh High Court (SHC) has expressed its dissatisfaction over the hospital’s management. A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has been formed for the case of disappearance of a child from CHK’s premises. The team has been summoned by the Secretary Health on November 22nd.
The mother of the missing child, Nouman, filed a petition and stated before the court that she, along with her two children, visited the hospital on May 28th for a medical checkup, and after getting her OPD token she realized that her son was missing. She registered multiple requests with the management to acquire footage of CCTV camera, but she was left helpless.
She filed an appeal at Sindh High Court to seek their help in recovering her son.
As per the report presented before the court, the missing child’s guardians and a woman were released after being taken into custody, due to lack of evidence. Furthermore, the report revealed that on the day of the child’s disappearance, the cameras of the CHK’s OPD were not functioning. Regarding this matter, the Health Secretary apologized in front of the court for the technical faults and assured that all CCTV cameras have now been activated and are fully functional.
The court ordered to activate CCTV cameras of Civil Hospital Karachi, JPMC and other KMC run hospitals. All concerned officials were directed to make use of the cameras that have been installed around the hospital by KMC and police department. Meanwhile, orders were issued to increase police deployment within the hospital premises, and that all available resources were directed to be used in searching for the missing child.
The court, regarding this case, has been adjourned till November 22nd.
