CM Sindh orders report on new Omicron sub-variant

KARACHI: The Sindh government has instructed the Health and Interior Ministries to study the new sub-variant BA.2.12 of Covid-19 Omicron and provide a report immediately.

The decision was reportedly issued during a cabinet meeting presided by Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh. The province's premier ordered the analysis of the new variety to mitigate any potential outbreak risks.

Shehbaz Shareef, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, had previously ordered the reopening of the National Command and Control Center (NCOC) after cases of the new strain were identified in the country.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also requested a study of the situation and a report from the national health ministry.

In a tweet on May 9, the National Institute of Health discovered the first case of the novel Covid-19 Omicron sub-variant. The new variant has spread fast over numerous countries.

"The NIH has identified the first case of Omicron subtype BA.2.12.1. 

According to a tweet from a health organization, this new sub-variant is producing a growing number of illnesses in several nations. The NIH recommended immunisation as the most effective preventative approach against catching the virus.
