KARACHI: Sindh Health Department recently made wearing face masks mandatory for all residents in Karachi because of the rapidly inflating cases of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19.
If unvaccinated people were detected in shopping malls or schools, a meeting chaired by Dr Azra Pechuho, Minister of Health, Sindh, had vowed to put them out of business. In addition, the meeting decided to initiate a 14-day corona vaccine campaign. According to Dr Azra, vaccination teams would go door to door to inoculate women at their residences. The meeting also determined that all youngsters in schools should be vaccinated.
According to the briefing, only 42 per cent of Karachi's population has been vaccinated so far. Ninety per cent of COVID-19 patients admitted to health facilities were unvaccinated. According to sources, there had been an increase in COVID-19 infections in Karachi, with the ratio of positive cases reaching 18 per cent. Meanwhile, Dr Azra Pechuho had an online meeting with DHOs from Karachi, Sukkur, and Larkana on COVID-19 Vaccination Drives.
