Smart bandage can now monitor and speed up wound repair

UNITED STATES: Researchers at the University of Stanford have devised a new wireless bandage that can now monitor wound healing and minimize the time for wound tissue repair

The bandage possesses an internal wireless circuit that can detect the wound healing processes in the wound. Scientists track the sensor data in real time on mobile phones. Clinical studies are currently being carried out to test the model sensor built into the bandage and to determine its efficiency in wound healing.

According to the researchers, if the wound is taking longer to heal or getting infected, the bandage can activate its central processing unit in the circuitry to send, electronic impulses to the wound, in order to stimulate wound closure and to encourage tissue repair before infection.
