20-month-old girl paralyzed by poliovirus in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: In an alarming development, a 20-month-old girl from Killa Saifullah, Balochistan, has been paralyzed by the poliovirus, marking the 14th polio case reported in Pakistan and 11th in the province, this year.
The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH) confirmed the case, underscoring the severity of the outbreak in Balochistan.
Balochistan continues to bear the brunt of the poliovirus outbreak, particularly in long-standing strongholds such as Quetta, Chaman, Killa Abdullah, and now Killa Saifullah. The provincial government is addressing the situation on an emergency footing, strategizing to curb the virus's spread.
Of the 14 polio cases reported in Pakistan this year, 11 have been from Balochistan, with two cases in Sindh and one in Punjab.
