KARACHI- Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) took notice of an illegal college, Hashmat Medical & Dental College, Jalal Pur Jattan, Gujrat. They recovered a sum of 48 million from the college administration, charged illegally from students.
Secretary General, Pakistan Medical Association (Centre), Dr. S.M.Qaisar Sajjad, in his statement said that, FIA and PMDC submitted their reports to the court, which were against the college.
According to FIA, the college failed to provide authentic receipts of the fee collected from the students. As per the PMDC report on the inspection conducted in March 2018, the college has failed to meet all the basic requirements of PMDC to register as a medical college. In regard of that inspection, the college could only score 414 marks out of 1000.
He added that, “PMA has been continuously raising its voice against the mushrooming growth of medical colleges in Pakistan. There are already 144 medical & dental colleges (101 medical & 43 dental college) in the country, but as far as the teaching and training facilities are concerned, majority lack in basic requirements, as per PMDC guidelines. For example, do we have 144 professors of basic medical sciences and 500 bedded 144 hospitals with training facilities across the country? The answer is a NO. That means we are imparting substandard medical education to produce substandard medical graduates to run the healthcare of this unfortunate poor nation.”
PMA believes that, instead of recognizing substandard institutions, new medical college shouldn’t be established. Authorities should firmly deal with and monitor all the existing medical colleges that do not meet PMDC standards.
