Patients with special needs need more attention than normal patients: Yasmin

LAHORE: Yasmin Rashid, Health Minister of Punjab, participated as a special guest in the ceremony held at the Institute of Mental Health on World Mental Illness Day. 

A large number of nurses and patients participated. Yasmin Rashid also inaugurated the state-of-the-art kitchen at the Institute of Mental Health. She also led a walk on the occasion of World Disease Day.
 
Yasmin Rashid said that October 10 is celebrated worldwide to spread awareness about diagnosing and treating patients suffering from mental diseases. The Institute of Mental Health is Asia's largest hospital for patients suffering from mental disorders. We are setting up a state-of-the-art memory centre for the convenience of patients. Along with a person's physical health, mental health is equally important. If someone has a mental illness, their family members undergo an excruciating process. An average person can fight any disease. Mentally ill patients need more attention than regular patients. 

Yasmin Rashid said that the Institute of Mental Health is revamped according to Imran Khan's vision. The immune system of patients suffering from mental diseases is also reduced. It is essential to spread awareness about the attention of patients suffering from mental disorders. People over 60 are generally prone to Alzheimer's and dementia. She further said that the parents of mentally ill people die every day after seeing their child. The role of parents is always vital in the life of a child. People who suffer from depression cannot live everyday life. Through the best kitchen in the Institute of Mental Health, quality and clean food will be provided three times a day to more than eleven hundred patients. The government stands with the patients suffering from mental diseases. She congratulated the Executive Director and C&W officers for building a state-of-the-art kitchen at the Institute of Mental Health. 

Executive Director Institute of Mental Health, Dr Mohsin Shaukat, said that he is grateful to Yasmin Rashid for giving autonomy to the Institute of Mental Health in 2021. He thanked Yasmin Rashid for establishing two teaching units in the Institute of Mental Health and providing a better sewerage system.   

Professor of Psychiatry Dr Ali Hashmi said that according to the vision of Yasmin Rashid, we are working day and night to improve the Institute of Mental Health. We are trying to make the Institute of Mental Health a centre of excellence. 
Dr Ali Hashmi said that the Institute we are doing clinical audits to provide better treatment facilities to the patients in the Institute of Mental Health. We are working on pharmacy reforms at the Institute of Mental Health.
