KARACHI: Dr Amir Shariff died of natural causes early this morning.
Dr Amir Shariff of the Department of Surgery unexpectedly passed away from natural causes. Dr Amir Shariff graduated from our MBBS program in 2003 and excelled in General and Minimally Invasive/Bariatric Surgery training at Yale University in the United States.
In 2011, he returned to his alma university, AKU, as an Assistant Professor in General Surgery, motivated by his desire to serve the people of Pakistan by providing cutting-edge surgical care of the highest calibre. He established a Bariatric program at AKU and collaborated with other agencies to advance minimally invasive surgery at AKU.
He immediately became one of the most revered faculty members in the Department and beyond due to his extraordinary skills, empathy, excellent patient care, and evident affection for medical students and residents of all levels. His appointment as Programme Director for General Surgery was not unexpected, and he remained one of the most fervent supporters for all trainees.
Dr Amir Shariff was instrumental in the ACGMEi's approval of the surgery residency, which was an outstanding accomplishment. He was also a member of the Medical Student Surgery Interest Group.
